    Speakers evolve like walnut people
well, the speaker I bought a year and a half ago have gone through a number of changes. They were 2 ways, a bit lacking in high frequency so I added "slot tweeters, then built a crossover network (from a schematic on the JBL Heritage site) so I had very nice high fidelity 3 ways ... with the tweeter resting on top of the cabinets. Recently I got a set of JBL L200 cabinets from a fellow in Aberdeen, MD (near the Delaware border). L200s were the consumer/home version of the 4320 2 way monitors I had gotten - all parts screw right in - for a 2 way (!)
So, over the weekend I bit the bullet, got out my drill and soldering iron, and mounted the tweeter in the cabinet similar to how JBL did it for their consumer 3 way of the late 70s ...

Got to say - with David Sylvian, Miles Davis, ornette Coleman, or that Mark Isham album Grant recommended - whew!

Last Thursday, Oct 19th, was time for a Date night out! A month back I heard the California Guitar Trio were coming to Jammin' Java in Vienna again -
we'd seen them there 2 years ago and had a great time -
Emma and I were really looking forward to a fun night out with music. The show was at 8PM - we got there around 6:30 and got a table 1 row back from the stage - but its a small club - I don't think there are any bad seats there. The night was great fun - I highly recommend seeing them any time they come to your town!

This weekend was our 9th Anniversary - 9 years ago on April 1st, Emma and I became a couple. To celebrate, we bought tickets to see Casey Stratton at Jammin' Java in Vienna, VA!
Its a great show, Casey is very talented and has an amazing voice - if he comes to your town, by all means, go see the show!

(Blame it on Kudzu - I heard about Casey on his blog a few years ago!)

    Happy Birthday to ME!
I bid on these old (mid-70's) JBL 2-way Studio Monitors on ebay a few weeks ago. The problem was, due to the size (2' x 3' x 2' and roughly 100lbs each) they were listed as "Pickup only" - and they were just outside Philadelphia, PA. Well, turns out I had the best bid and won them for a very reasonable fee ($300).
Due to last weekend's snow we weren't going to do any roadtrips- so we made plans to do a 1-day roundtrip on Sat 18th.
We left Fairfax around 9:15am - got to Top 10 Music outsde Philly at 11:45 - had the speakers loaded and covered by 12:30.
And what would a trip to Philly be without Cheese-steak subs. Chris gave us directions to Leo's Steaks - and he was right - they were to die for ...
I've never had anything like that in DC - Philly Cheese-steaks are like crack - Emma even bought another sub to bring back with us!
Anyway - we were home before 7PM, hauled the speakers inside, and I wiped them down with Tung oil to freshen the walnut veneer a bit.
I bought them knowing I'd need to add a set of high-tweeters and redo the crossover network for long-term use, but the woofers alone were worth more than I paid or the complete speakers. So fair I've listened to some old Who, Jaco Pastorius, Weather Report, The Concert for George (Harrison) and a few other things - the bass is tight and amazing! Once I get them finish freshened up a bit more and get the high-tweeters installed I can put them up in the corners where my old JBl L36 speakers (bought new in 1976) sit now. I'll put the L36s in the back of the room for surround sound use.
And the birthday thingee? Why, its today, Feb 19th! The speakers are like a fine gift to me!

Sirage Adem, the owner of GBK Remodeling, is scheduled to come by Tuesday at 3PM to look at and discuss the work thats been done on our bathroom. I put the not-yet-installed vanity that his worker, Cornelius hacked up last week into the living room (so we could discuss it), and our cat, Dolly Lama Diva, decided it was just perfect for her to explore. I think she wants to be a show cat!

We have been suffering from a home remodeling horror story. It began May 18 when we signed a contract with GBK Remodeling, aka Globe Bath & Kitchen, and the owner, Sirage Adem.
